Trail of the Owls

Pedrógão Pequeno Shale Trail I

The PR1 “Trilho dos Bufos” (Owl Trail) is a circular route starting and ending at the Municipal Market of Pedrógão Pequeno.

This route will take you along a Roman road, where you can also observe the magnificent granite cliffs of the Zêzere Valley and the golden eagle that frequently flies over this area.

The Porteleiros stream, the village of Casal dos Bufos (which gives the route its name), the Cabril Dam (built on the Zêzere River and inaugurated on July 31, 1954), the Cabril quarry where the stone for the dam’s construction was extracted, and the Monte da Senhora da Confiança (Our Lady of Confidence Hill) are some of the places you can see along the way.
