A whitewashed village of granite set amidst a sea of brown schist. Nestled alongside the Zêzere River and at the heart of the Schist Villages Network, Pedrógão Pequeno offers visitors an authentic Portuguese experience with everything close at hand.

This historic former town, located on the left bank of the Zêzere River and just off the IC8 motorway, lies only a few kilometres from Pedrógão Grande and the Cabril Dam. Among its most notable landmarks are the Parish Church and the historic Philippine Bridge spanning the Zêzere. Although schist is the predominant building material in the region, a nearby granite outcrop—known locally as a pedrógão—provided the stone used for door and window frames throughout the village.

In Pedrógão Pequeno, much of the schist architecture lies hidden beneath traditional whitewashed façades. When the local philharmonic band performs, the streets come alive, recalling the vibrant atmosphere of the 1950s, when workers arrived here to build the Cabril Dam.

Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views from the summit of Monte da Senhora da Confiança and follow the old road that crosses the historic Philippine Bridge on its way to the Zêzere River.

Hotel da Montanha is ideally located along two popular hiking routes: the Bufos Trail and the Zêzere Trail, making it an excellent base for exploring the surrounding natural beauty.

At Monte da Senhora da Confiança, you will find a natural viewpoint overlooking the Cabril Reservoir—a spectacular panorama that should not be missed.
